    Special Events

    On Saturday, April 12, The AIPAD Photography Show New York is presenting a day of special events in the Veteran’s Room at the Park Avenue Armory.  The Legacy of John Szarkowski, a short talk, panel discussion and documentary film will be presented from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Peter Galassi, Chief Curator,
    Department of Photography, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, will deliver a short talk, Photography Until Now:  John Szarkowski’s Materialist History of Photography and moderate a panel discussion with AIPAD dealers whose lives were impacted by this legendary curator and photographer.
    Richard Woodward will introduce his prize-winning short documentary film John Szarkowski: A Life in Photography (Checkerboard Films, 1998).  The film will be repeated at 1:00 p.m.  

    From 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., AIPAD and Aperture Foundation are presenting An Insider’s Look At Photography: Conversations With Writers + Curators.  Moderated by Aperture’s Michelle Dunn Marsh and Laurel Ptak, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., the speakers will be Geoffrey Batchen, Professor of the History of Photography and Contemporary Art, Graduate Center, CUNY, and Lyle Rexer, Independent Critic.  From 4:30 to 5:30 pm., the speakers will be Alison Nordström, Curator of Photographs, George Eastman House, and Sandra S. Phillips, Senior Curator of Photography, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

    Admission to all special events is free.  Seating is extremely limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
