My name is Luigi Mapelli (Mapo). I’ve attended the architecture school of Brera and then the Graphic Design School. I combine both my passions: photography and painting, and by walking along a difficult path, finally I can use art in a interdisciplinary way. In my works, real shapes in photo shoots acquire a dreamlike dimension through a clever use of oil and tempera painting. The careful study of photographic cut, the technique of amanuenses and the use of wide empty spaces; skies, snowed lands, and walls. The real protagonist of most part of my work, allows me to reach an armonic equilibrium of shape and colours. My painting is a compendium of disciplines practiced in the past.

My work is a series of relations, between the day-by-day life, my own memories, history, and irony. In the works, the audience is brought through a world where obscene and the impure are put on display, arranged in a paradoxical and surreal make-believe world.

Usually everything is installed together, combining different medias, such as painting, graphic printing, and drawings. My work is based on my gut instinct and whatever I feel like doing in the present moment. Therefore none of my work is planned beforehand, only loose ideas, that if the right combination of circumstances occur, are put together into a new piece.
