My images employ a woman, a particular setting, and a flower, elements deriving from the Japanese aesthetic of Yugen, which forms the basis of the Zen drama called Noh, a highly symbolic and religious drama. According to this aesthetic, woman, who is the major protagonist of the plays, cannot be known through objective reasoning, but only by the subjective experience of a viewer who must interpret personally the transformation a woman in a particular place and time. Hence the works are suggestive, requiring the viewer to interact with the symbols, to arrive at a personal rather than a universal meaning.
